How We Serve

School Sisters of Notre Dame in the Dallas Province minister in elementary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, schools for the mentally disabled, early childhood education centers, hospitals, prisons and detention centers, parishes and diocesan offices, as well as literacy and adult education programs.

Education
SSNDs serve as administrators, teachers, librarians, and tutors in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and universities in dioceses in the United States and Ghana, West Africa. Believing that the world can be changed through the transformation of people, the Sisters' approach to education is global in scope, wholistic in approach, and strongly oriented toward creating a just society.
  Pastoral Work
In a continued effort to promote human dignity, foster values which reveal the reign of God, and confront with the Gospel message those elements which impede human development and unity, SSNDs work at both the diocesan and parish level. Sisters serve as pastoral associates, directors of religious education programs, teachers, and spiritual directors.

Health Care
Through their involvement in health care ministries, SSNDs become a channel of God's transforming healing power. Sisters minister as chaplains, nurses, nurse practitioners, and mental health professionals in hospitals, clinics, retirement facilities, and in home health care.
Social Work
In response to cultural and educational needs that necessitate going beyond school walls, the sisters work in the community as counselors, social workers, and chaplains in prisons and detention centers.

Special Education

Since 1963, Notre Dame School in Dallas, Texas, has provided educational opportunities for mild-to-moderate mentally disabled students ages six through twenty-one. AFIL, The Association for Independent Living, opened in Dallas in 1974 to provide independent living opportunities for mentally disabled adults.

The sisters living at St. Mary of the Pines minister through community service, prayer, and hospitality. Several sisters minister through corporate service as provincial councilors, Province administrative staff, and sponsored institution administration and staff.
