Retreat Center

The Dallas Province owns and operates St. Mary of the Pines Retreat and Renewal Center in Chatawa, Mississippi. Providing a quiet and peaceful setting for people who seek spiritual renewal, the Retreat Center offers both private retreats and directed (5 or 8 days) retreats for groups and individuals. Center accommodates seventy overnight guests and includes a large conference area, chapel, and kitchen.

Directions: St. Mary of the Pines Retreat Center is located in Chatawa, Mississippi, approximately two hours from Jackson, Mississippi, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. To get to the Retreat Center from I-55, take Chatawa Exit 4. Head east on Chatawa Road, turn right (south) onto Highway 51, turn left (east) onto St. Mary's Road, turn right (south) onto Old Highway 51, turn right (west) into St. Mary of the Pines. Follow the signs for the Retreat Center.

February 27-March 1, 2009
Beginning of Lent
“Living in God’s Presence” God is always with us, but as busy human beings, we may need help in becoming more mindful of God’s presence with us. Sister Diane Depwe, a professional counselor and retreat presenter, will suggest some practices that help one to live more intimately with God everyday. Suggested donation $120


May 12-17, 2009
Advanced Icon Workshop
This workshop is for advanced students who have completed several iconography classes under the tutelage of a master from the Prosopon School of Iconography. A detailed description of the workshop and fees is available upon request. New students may call for information about classes for beginners that are held annually at another retreat center.


June 5-11, 2009
Conference Retreat
“God’s Deepest Mercy Dawning” Through conferences, prayer and ritual, this retreat will explore themes in the Gospel of Luke and invite the participants to an encounter with Jesus, God’s mercy made flesh. The presenter, Fr. Terrance Moran, CSSR, is a retreat master, spiritual director and facilitator for religious congregations.

July 17-19, 2009
Speak, Lord, I’m Listening
This retreat, using the St. Ignatius spiritual exercises will give techniques to pray and meditate that can deepen one’s relationship with the Lord and help one to “find God in all things.” (St. Ignatius) Fr. Bill Henry, pastor of St. Therese Parish in Jackson, MS, will be the presenter. Suggested donation $120


October 23-25, 2009
Annual Women’s Retreat
“Women: called to Wholeness/Holiness” In this retreat, S Angele Sadlier, O.Carm., will guide participants in a weekend of praying with Scripture (Lectio Divina), silent reflection, centering prayer and large and small group sharing. An experienced retreat director and presenter, S. Angele studied under Fr. Thomas Keating.

A private retreat, a retreat without a director, may be scheduled anytime space is available. During private retreats, the individual chooses her/his own resources and rhythm of prayer. Suggested donation $50 a day
