Sponsored Ministries
SSND sponsorship is the mutually beneficial
and dynamic relationship between the congregation and an organization
in which the SSND charism and educational vision are defining
characteristics of the organization's mission.
The Dallas Province sponsors three ministries: Notre Dame School,
Progressive Education Program, Inc. (PEPI), and Notre Dame Education
Center.

The
Notre Dame of Dallas Schools, Inc.
Dallas, Texas
Opened by the Dallas Province in September 1963, The Notre Dame of
Dallas Schools, Inc. in Dallas, Texas, educates students with developmental
disabilities. The School’s mission is two-fold: to provide quality,
individualized education to students with mental disabilities, and
to maximize their integration into society.
The School’s academic curriculum emphasizes mathematics, reading,
spelling and writing. Music, PE, and religion classes are offered
to all students. Christian values and attitudes are taught in all
classes. |

The Special School (Lower School students
ages 6-14) includes primary and intermediate classes. Students
concentrate on individual achievement through a combination of
academics and functional living skills. In addition, students
receive integrated speech/music/occupational therapy.
The Vocational School (Upper School students ages 15-21) focuses
on independent living skills, job skills and career exploration.
Students work off-campus each morning in both paid and non-paid
job internships. Participation in off-site community-based or
job-based training helps students develop self-confidence and
appropriate work habits in a supervised environment.
Extracurricular activities include choir (voice, bell, and signing),
dances, Young Life, and participation in Special Olympics.
At Notre Dame School, there are No Limits, Just Possibilities.
Sister Maureen Therese Mueller teaches music and serves as a teacher's
aide.

Progressive
Education Program,
Inc. (PEPI)
New Iberia, Louisiana
A community-based volunteer program, Progressive Education Program,
Inc. (PEPI) began in 1976 to educate field hands from area sugar cane
plantations. In 1993, the Dallas province took over its administration
from the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Today, PEPI offers vocational education and GED classes to adult men
and women. PEPI’s basic belief is that liberation through education
enables adults to help themselves, thus empowering them to develop
to their fullest potential. |

Notre
Dame Education Center
Canton, Mississippi
Notre Dame Education Center (NDEC) was the Dallas Province’s
response to the 19th General Chapter’s mandate to commit a percentage
of personnel and finances for the needs of the poor. The greatest
need that surfaced was illiteracy in Southern Mississippi. NDEC opened
in 1997, with programs ranging in basic literacy through preparation
for the General High School Equivalency Diploma (GED). The Center
serves younger people seeking assistance to pass the GED and older
persons wanting to fulfill their lifelong goal of learning to read.

poor.
